Case Studies :

Cost Benefit Assessment
Westmead Children’s Hospital

The hospital and NSW Health Department have been looking for ways to improve service delivery via wireless technology. Our cost benefit assessment of new wireless technology to improve voice and data communication in wards, emergency departments and surgery was the first of its kind in Australia and identified substantial productivity benefits.

Economic and Social Impact
Economic and social value of the Australian zoo industry

The zoo and aquarium industry’s contribution to conservation, education, tourism and biosecurity has often been overlooked by policy makers. Our economic and social impact assessment of all these issues was the first of its kind in Australia and was published internationally. It has given the industry a platform to advocate its value to the economy and society.

Magic Millions

The Magic Millions is one of Australia’s premier horse sale and racing events, and the first each year in the racing calendar. It is a major tourism drawcard for the Gold Coast. Our economic impact analysis helped the Queensland Government decide to allocate extra funding to improve racing infrastructure on the Gold Coast.

Competition Policy
New South Wales Charter Cruise Industry

Government service provision subsidised by the tax payer that is offered in competition with private services can reduce competition and distort markets. The volatile nature of tourism markets can make this a significant problem. Our economic/policy analysis and submissions helped the NSW charter cruise industry ensure that government funded ferry services act consistently with competition policy and law, and that the government did not assume responsibility for ticketing services.

Energy Retailers Association of Australia

As governments seek to implement smart technology like grids and meters to improve demand management, relationships with energy users and business models will change. Our completion policy analysis and public affairs strategy helped the Energy Retailers Association of Australia shape national smart technology policy.
